Privacy Policy
This explains what The Basement (thebasement.fun) collects, why, and what you can do about it. We try to keep collection to what the site actually needs. "The Basement," "we," and "us" mean The Basement Games Inc..
What we collect
- Account info. When you sign up, our auth provider (Supabase) handles your email and login method: email magic link, Google, or passkey. We store your handle and the basics needed to run your account.
- Your content and activity. The verdicts you cast, the takes you write, helpful votes, and similar actions are stored and tied to your account so the site works and your profile reflects your contributions.
- Linked wallet address (optional). If you choose to link a wallet for the Verified Player badge, we store the wallet address. We only ever ask you to sign a message to prove ownership, never a transaction. Your wallet address is never shown publicly. It's used solely to check, via an on-chain indexer, whether the wallet interacted with a given game, so we can derive the badge. That's it.
- Usage analytics. We use PostHog to understand how the site is used (pages viewed, votes cast, signups, and similar events) so we can improve onboarding and retention.
- Technical data. Standard server and security logs (such as IP address and device/browser info) collected when you use the site.
We do not sell your personal data.
Cookies and similar technologies
We use cookies and similar storage to keep you signed in, remember preferences, secure the site, and measure usage through our analytics. You can control cookies through your browser; some features won't work properly without the essential ones.
Third parties we share data with
We rely on a small set of service providers to run the site (hosting, email, analytics, security, and on-chain lookups), and we share only what each needs to do its job. Each handles your data under its own terms. We may also disclose data if required by law or to protect the service and its users.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. You can edit or delete your content and close your account at any time. To make a request, contact us at [PLACEHOLDER: privacy@…]. We'll respond as required by applicable law.
Retention
We keep your account data while your account is active. When you delete content or close your account, we remove or anonymize your personal data within a reasonable period, except where we need to keep something to meet a legal obligation, resolve disputes, or enforce our terms. Backups and logs are kept for a limited time on a rolling basis. Edited takes keep an internal history for transparency, as described in our Guidelines.
Children
The Basement isn't intended for anyone under [PLACEHOLDER: minimum age]. We don't knowingly collect data from children under that age.
Changes and contact
We may update this policy; we'll post the new version with a revised date. Questions, or to exercise your rights, contact [PLACEHOLDER: privacy@…].
